My name is Tom Fowler, I’m the inventor of The Rippin Roller™ and the founder of Rippin Fitness™.
I have been involved in the fitness and health industry for over 20 years. Who would have thought that a football injury would have propelled me into my lifelong career of teaching and coaching people to be physically active? At the age of 15, I broke three vertebra in my back and was told that I would be lucky to walk again. Additionally, the chances of me participating in physical activity were greatly impacted. However, with being in great physical shape from exercising and weight training, the severity of the injury was greatly-reduced, and I still had a chance to persevere. Miraculously, I was in and out of rehab in one month when it takes most people a full year to recover from a similar injury. I came back stronger and continued to participate in high impact sports.
This injury propelled me into my career today because I wanted to teach people the importance of exercise and being physically-active. While I was in college, I coached at several high schools and ran their strength and conditioning programs. I personally trained many youth and adults, some of whom competed in college, the NFL, and the Olympic Trials.
While training and coaching, I received my Bachelors of Science to teach Health and Physical Education to assist the youth in understanding the importance of fitness and exercise. While teaching, I then received my Masters in Health and Physical Education. My goal in life is to teach people, of all ages, to become physically-fit and to stay that way.
Being an avid user of various gyms and workout equipment, I am always looking for ways to improve the fitness industry experience. During my home workouts, I consistently do push-ups, use an abdominal wheel, a foam roller and exercise bands. Looking for a way to go from an abdominal roll out right into a push-up, without the ab wheel bending or breaking, adding tension to my abdominal rollouts, without the bands slipping off, and wanting smoother transitions between multiple pieces of equipment. I came up with the idea to put handles on a foam roller with a band attachment. Thus, combining these concepts (push-up stands, ab wheel, foam roller, exercise bands) into one unit, creating The Rippin Roller.
